The effect has been achieved using Rustoleum Chalked Paint Charcoal.

Chalked paint is ideal for renewing dated furniture and is an inexpensive way to revive second hand furniture. Either a solid or distressed look can be achieved and a couple of coats of clear will provide an extra level of protection to the finish.
